For Nature Lovers

If you love the great outdoors, Mendocino County is the place for you. The winter season brings unsettled weather, which means a few rainy days broken up by days of beautiful golden sunshine.  Throwing on a jacket during a light rain will bring huge rewards to Nature Lovers looking for breathtaking scenery and sights.

We recommend you stay at the
Brewery Gulch Inn- A 4-diamond inn built from virgin redwood that was eco-salvaged from nearby Big River. The inn is nestled in 10-acres of pine trees, redwoods, rhododendrons, and native plants.  In addition, you’ll enjoy ocean views from your room, a fireplace, Jacuzzi or soaking tub for two, a private deck, and a complimentary full gourmet breakfast and wine hour with hors d'oeuvres.

Day 1

Start your day with the delicious organic breakfast provided by the Brewery Gulch Inn. Try the Housemade Brewery Gulch Granola, Cinnamon-Nutmeg Oatmeal topped with a dried fruit compote, or a rolled omelet served with fresh crème fraîche.

After breakfast, get ready to meet one of nature’s greatest creations up close and personal! You are going to the
Noyo Fishing Center for a Whale Watching Expedition.  This is peak season for whale migration, and the Noyo Fishing Center is one of the most reliable companies for sea adventures.  They have a 95% sighting rate, and you can enjoy it all from the comfort of their 50 foot, all weather, heated boat.

After this full day of excitement, you will want to freshen up in your room and possibly take part in the Brewery Gulch’s Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Bar, which is complimentary for guests. Then it’s on to
The Ravens Restaurant, located in the Stanford Inn By The Sea in Mendocino. The Ravens is a vegetarian restaurant, committed to serving carefully selected organic products and preparing delicious dishes that even meat-lovers will enjoy. Here you will find kindred, nature-loving spirits. A co-operative of talented chefs at The Ravens is committed to supporting sustainable agriculture and organic farming, minimizing waste and recycling all manufactured items and food wastes.

Day 2

After enjoying another fabulous breakfast at the Brewery Gulch Inn, allow the chef to also pack you a gourmet picnic lunch (advance notice required), which you can take on a hike to a number of destinations. Choose to explore the Russian Gulch State Park waterfalls.   Or, do some beachcombing at Ten Mile Beach where you can hike, bike or ride horseback. Venture out to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens to bird watch or enjoy the sunset.

Dinner at the
Little River Inn Restaurant offers another opportunity to take in Mendocino’s breathtaking scenery, while enjoying some of the best cuisine in the area.   Nature is at its best as you overlook the gardens in the dining room of the Little River Inn.  This restaurant features local fare and warm hospitality.
